The search for a win continued Wednesday night for Luis Diaz.

Victory again proved elusive as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats beat the Portland Sea Dogs 2-0 at Hadlock Field.

The Sea Dogs (28-51) managed seven hits, including a 1-for-4 night from Red Sox outfielder Shane Victorino, who was the designated hitter, on the second day of his rehab assignment with Portland.

Victorino, recovering from a strained calf, had a single and a strikeout. He didn’t know where he would be Thursday.

“We’ll wait and see,” he said.

Diaz (0-7) took the loss, continuing a streak that goes back to July 5, 2014, when Diaz last earned a winning decision. In 24 starts since, he is 0-10 with a 5.65 ERA.

There are times that Diaz gives up a bunch of runs and there are times, like Wednesday, when he pitches well enough to win. But the Sea Dogs’ offense disappeared.

Diaz gave up two runs on seven hits and two walks over six innings. He threw a good curveball and struck out five.

“The breaking ball is the key, mixed with the slider and fastball,” said Diaz, who shrugged about not getting a win. “It is what it is.”

While the Fisher Cats (37-39) took advantage of opportunities, the Sea Dogs squandered them.

New Hampshire starter John Anderson (3-3) gave up seven hits over 62/3 innings but walked none and struck out four.

Anderson pitched out of trouble early. Marco Hernandez (2 for 4) led off the first with a single and moved to second on a balk. Anderson struck out Victorino on a fastball. Carlos Asuaje grounded out to second, advancing Hernandez to third.

But Jantzen Witte’s sinking line drive in right field was run down by Ian Parmley, making a nifty sliding catch.

In the second, Sam Travis led off with a single but was caught in a rundown on a pickoff attempt. Keury De La Cruz hit a two-out double, but was stranded.

In the third, Portland put two on with two-out singles by Victorino and Asuaje. But Witte grounded into a forceout.

Diaz gave up three singles in the third, including Dalton Pompey’s RBI single. In the fifth, Parmley led off with a walk, reached second on a wild pitch and scored on Dwight Smith’s two-out single for a 2-0 lead.

The Sea Dogs managed one hit in the final three innings. Wil Browning pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his first save.

NOTES: The announced paid attendance was 3,072. … New Hampshire had only three players named to the Eastern League All-Star Game. Not included was outfielder Dalton Pompey, who is batting .378 after going 2 for 4 on Wednesday. Pompey, 22, has played only 20 games in the league. He started the season in Toronto (.193 with two home runs in 23 games) and then moved to Triple-A (.209) before ending up with the Fisher Cats on June 6. … Pompey had not been thrown out trying to steal in Double-A until Sea Dogs catcher Jake Romanski gunned him down in the first. … Thursday’s game will feature an appearance by former pro wrestler Mick Foley.
