Goalie Mike McKenna signed a two-year, two-way NHL contract with the Portland Pirates’ new affiliate, the Florida Panthers, the team announced Wednesday.

McKenna, 32, was the Pirates’ MVP last season. He posted career highs in wins (27), goals-against average (2.24), shutouts (seven), save percentage (.926) and games (52) while guiding Portland to a playoff appearance. He ranks third in Pirates history with 51 career victories.

Over his 10-year pro career, McKenna has played in 22 NHL games, including one last season with Arizona, the Pirates’ affiliate at the time.

The Panthers also signed forward Shane Harper and defensemen Sena Acolatse and Cameron Gaunce to one-year, two-way NHL contracts. Florida also signed defenseman Brent Regner to a two-year, two-way NHL contract.

In a two-way contract, a player is paid one rate for NHL games and a lower salary for AHL games.
