Bar Harbor Bankshares, the parent company of BarHarbor Bank & Trust, has been added to the Russell 2000 and Russell 3000 indices. The indices are widely used by investment managers and institutional investors for index funds and as benchmarks for active investment strategies.

The Russell indices are composed of publicly traded companies drawn from a list of the 4,000 largest U.S. companies that meet certain criteria related to market capitalization, the number of shares available for purchase and other investor-related metrics.

Created by FTSE Russell, a wholly owned subsidiary of the London Stock Exchange Group, the indices are updated annually each June, when companies may be added or removed. Other Maine-based community bank operators are included in the Russell indices, including Camden National Corp. and First Bancorp Inc.
