The Boston Celtics waived guard Phil Pressey on Wednesday.

Pressey averaged 3.5 points, 1.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 12.0 minutes last season, with a season-high of 11 points against Miami on March 25.

He also played in 75 games for the Celtics in 2013-14 after he signed with the team as an undrafted free agent.

GOLD CUP: Cuban national midfielders Dario Suarez and Aricheel Hernandez were suspected of defecting prior to Wednesday’s match vs. Guatemala.

FIFA: Daniel Flynn, the U.S. Soccer Federation’s secretary general, said he had suspicions about the sport’s international governing body, but a lack of evidence kept him from acting before it was ensnared in a U.S. corruption investigation.

“There was nothing in the way of any facts that I could take to anyone,” Flynn told a Senate Commerce Committee hearing in Washington. “It was a discomfort level.”

NHL: The Coyotes signed defenseman Philip Samuelsson and forward Brendan Shinnimin to one-year, two-way contracts.

Skip Flanagan and Tyler Krobetzky hit back-to-back RBI doubles to stretch the lead to 7-3 in the seventh inning.

The Surge (10-17) finished scoring in the eighth on Carlos Valdez’s two-run homer.
