Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia was activated from the disabled list Friday and was in the starting lineup for Friday night’s game against the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim, California.

Pedroia had been on the disabled list since June 25, a day after he strained his right hamstring while running out a two-run single against Baltimore. He did not go on a minor-league rehab assignment.

Pedroia is batting .306 with nine homers, 33 RBI and an .819 OPS.

All-Star Brock Holt, who had been filling in for Pedroia at second base, was not in Friday’s starting lineup.

DIAMONDBACKS: Shortstop Dansby Swanson, the first pick in baseball’s amateur draft last month, agreed to a $6.5 million signing bonus just before the deadline for him to reach a deal.

Swanson’s deal was well below the $8,616,900 slotted for the first overall pick. The Diamondbacks basically made their final offer and waited to see if Swanson accepted.

Draft picks with remaining college eligibility had until 5 p.m. Friday to reach an agreement on a minor league contract.

Had a deal not been struck, Swanson would have been eligible to play for Vanderbilt as a senior and Arizona would have received the No. 2 overall pick next June.

DODGERS: Los Angeles signed first-round draft pick pitcher Walker Buehler, but failed to reach a deal with Kyle Funkhouser, making the Louisville pitcher the only first-round selection not to sign.

Buehler, the 24th overall pick, received a signing bonus of $1,777,500.

BRAVES: Atlanta extended the contracts of Manager Fredi Gonzalez and his coaches through the 2016 season.

The team said the extensions include club options for 2017.

The Braves return from the All-Star break with a 42-47 record in Gonzalez’s fifth season. His record with the Braves is 400-337, including the 2013 NL East title and a wild-card spot in 2012.

The Braves added experience to their bullpen by signing left-hander Ross Detwiler and right-hander Jason Frasor, both released Wednesday, for the remainder of the season.

Detwiler was 0-5 with a 7.12 ERA in 17 games with Texas. Frasor was 1-0 with a 1.54 ERA in 26 games with Kansas City.

WHITE SOX: General Manager Rick Hahn said the team is still deciding if it will try to add or sell players.

The White Sox won 13 of 20 games before the All-Star break after struggling most of the way.

Hahn said they have to “continue that over the next several days before we stick our flag in the ground.”

MARLINS: All-Star second baseman Dee Gordon was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of his dislocated left thumb.

The move was retroactive to Sunday. Gordon was replaced on the roster by infielder Martin Prado, who had been on the disabled list since mid-June with a right shoulder injury.

Gordon leads the majors with 122 hits and ranks second with 33 stolen bases.

CARDINALS: St. Louis activated All-Star Matt Holliday from the 15-day disabled list and had him batting third against the Mets on Friday night.

The 35-year-old Holliday was sidelined with a right quadriceps strain June 4. He was batting .303 with three homers and 26 RBI in 52 games.

INDIANS: Relief pitcher Nick Hagadone left Wednesday’s rehab assignment with Mahoning Valley with elbow discomfort.

He was looked at by Dr. Mark Schickendantz. The team is seeking a second opinion but the outlook seems bleak.
