I was much disturbed to read in the July 21 Portland Press Herald that Scott Walker of Wisconsin was the 15th state governor to sign into law a ban on abortion at or after 20 weeks (“Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker signs bill banning abortions at 20 weeks”).

What I find most distressing about such legislation, as well as the legislators who support it, is their utter lack of concern for the child once it is born.

If they are so pro-life, then why are they not funding adequate schooling for these unborn children in later life, adequate medical care, adequate food, etc.? Their pro-life attitude seems only to be connected with sex, but not with the needs of life after that child is born.

How hollow and hypocritical can such an attitude be? Let’s call it for what it is, and that is hardly pro-life – it is merely pro-fetus.

They do not give a darn about the life needs of that unborn child! If they did, there would surely be legislation for the needs of that child’s life after birth.
