A man attempting to back out of a parking space Sunday afternoon on Park Street in Portland accidentally hit his car’s accelerator when he meant to hit the brake, jumped a curb and crashed into an apartment building on Congress Street, police said.
Lt. Roberty Doherty said there were no injuries in the crash, which was reported to police around 3 p.m. He did not know the name of the man, who he believed was in his 60s.
Doherty said traffic was halted and some street signs were knocked down when the man drove his red Chrysler Sebring into the Lafayette building at 638 Congress St.
