WESTFIELD, Mass. — Trejyn Fletcher hit a two-out, two-run homer in the seventh inning Wednesday to lift Portland to a 4-3 victory against Westford, Massachusetts, in the final of the Babe Ruth 14-year-old New England Regional.

Portland will play in the World Series scheduled Aug. 15-22 at Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

Fletcher also hit sacrifice flies in the first and third innings.

Cam King and Donnie Tocci combined to pitch a four-hitter for Portland, which gave up three runs in the fifth to fall behind, 3-2.

AMERICAN LEGION

MORRILL POST 13, SACO-BIDDEFORD SAVINGS 2: Anthony Degifico hit two-run singles in the fifth and sixth innings, and finished with three hits for Morrill Post (13-5), which downed Saco-Biddeford Savings in seven innings during the opening day of the state tournament at South Portland.

Nick Troiano hit a two-run single to spark a three-run first inning and Robert Graff added a two-run single in the third to extend Morrill’s lead to 5-0.

Henry Curran was perfect through four innings and took a no-hitter into the sixth for Morrill.

TWILIGHT LEAGUE

LENDERS NETWORK 8, EDGE 1: Eddie Stewart had two hits, drove in three runs and scored two to lead Lenders Network at South Portland.

Shylar Scates and Tyler Laverriere combined to strike out 11 in a two-hitter for Lenders Network.

SANFORD 7, VALLEY 3: Nate Stepna gave the Mainers (21-18) the lead for good with a two-run double during a three-run fifth inning as Sanford clinched a playoff berth with a win over the Valley Blue Sox (18-21) at Goodall Park in Sanford.

Sanford added two runs in the sixth and put the game out of reach on a two-run homer by Andruw Gazzola in the eighth.

Ben Greenberg of Scarborough gave up one unearned run on four hits, striking out four over five innings to earn the win.

Cam Hatch closed out the game for Sanford, striking out four in a scoreless inning after a runner advanced to first on a dropped third strike.
