Re: “Because of taxes, Sam Adams might take an un-American turn” (Page C1, Aug. 1):

I do not think that I have ever read a clearer, more honest statement exemplifying the amorality of the marketplace than this one by Boston Beer Co. founder Jim Koch to a U.S. Senate committee last week:

“We don’t mind paying our taxes here in the U.S. in gratitude for the opportunities that exist in this country and that I certainly have enjoyed – but don’t mistake that for good financial decision making.”

When it comes to patriotism versus profit, it is simply not a fair fight.
