A mobile home was destroyed and two pets died in a fire on Varney Road in Casco around noon Friday, the Raymond fire chief said.

Bruce Tupper said the structure, which had several additions, was engulfed in flames when crews arrived.

He said the people who lived there weren’t home at the time, but two dogs that were inside died in the fire.

It took crews from Raymond, Casco, Naples, Windham and Gray about an hour to get the fire under control, Tupper said. One firefighter, he said, was “overexerted” and was treated at the scene.

Tupper also said the State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to help determine the cause of the fire, but it’s not considered suspicious.
