Jeff Cole of York and Andrew Slattery of Minot won two matches Wednesday to advance to Thursday’s final of the Maine Match Play Championship at Martindale Country Club in Auburn.
Cole, last year’s runner-up, defeated Luke Ruffing 6 and 4 in the semifinals after beating Matt Greenleaf 4 and 2 in the quarterfinals earlier Wednesday. Ruffing had defeated Brian Angis 6 and 4 in the quarterfinals.
Slattery, the 2014 Maine Amateur champion, defeated Joe Walp in 20 holes in the semifinals and John Hayes IV 3 and 2 in the quarterfinals. Walp beat Sam Grindle 5 and 3 in the quarterfinals.
Thursday’s final is scheduled for 7 a.m.
