A married couple were killed in a house fire Saturday night at 2 Virginia Drive in Lincolnville, authorities said.

The victims – identified as Virginia Dyer, 79, and her husband, Eugene Dyer, 81 – were pronounced dead at the scene.

Lincolnville Fire Chief Ben Hazen said the fire at the two-story house was reported by a passer-by at 10:38 p.m.

Firefighters pulled the Dyers out – one from a window and the other, who was found at the front door – but efforts to resuscitate them failed. Two dogs were rescued unharmed. There were no other occupants, Hazen said.

The fire appears to have started in a connected storage area of the home between the house and the garage. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause, which is not suspicious, Hazen said. A representative of the state medical examiner’s office will view the bodies Monday and try to determine the cause of death, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
