Downtown Portland’s Congress Street in the 1990s was decidedly less vibrant than it is today. This 1995 photograph from the Press Herald print archives shows the large vacant storefront formerly occupied by the F.W. Woolworth 5 & 10 store shortly before the building was renovated for an L.L. Bean outlet store.

The same building, shown below on July 29, 2015, has been home to Reny’s since 2011.
