Police say emergency workers have recovered the body of a pilot whose plane crashed into a manmade pond in the northern Maine town of Houlton.
State police spokesman Steve McCausland says the pond was being drained Thursday in order for workers to get to the wreckage and recover the body. WCSH-TV reports that police were not releasing the identification of the plane owner or pilot until family had been notified.
McCausland says the plane was expected to land at a local airport. It appears to have clipped some trees and flipped over in the pond.
The plane was found Thursday morning. Police were called to investigate a possible crash and searched for the plane near the Houlton airport.
The pilot is believed to have been the plane’s sole occupant.
