Biddeford Mayor Alan Casavant’s car was hit with eggs Friday morning – along with as many as two dozen of his neighbors’ cars.

Deputy Police Chief Joanne Fisk said Casavant’s car was among those hit with eggs early Friday in a neighborhood off Pool Street. She said eggings of cars often occur in that neighborhood about the time students at the nearby University of New England return to school.

Fisk said, however, that police have not concluded that UNE students were behind previous incidents or this one, which they believe occurred around 2:30 a.m. Friday.

Casavant has been in the news recently because Matthew Lauzon, a Boston businessman, has accused two men – including a former Biddeford police officer – of having sexually abused him when he was a teenager. Lauzon has called for Casavant and the City Council to suspend Police Chief Roger Beaupre while his allegations are investigated, but the council has refused to do so.

Attorney General Janet Mills announced this week that her office found insufficient evidence to prove that any crimes were committed by the two men. Lauzon’s attorney said he expects to file a lawsuit.

Fisk said police have no evidence that the egging of Casavant’s car was connected to the allegations or the attorney general’s decision.
