NEW YORK — An arbitrator ruled against Barry Bonds in a collusion case stemming from his final season in the majors.
Major League Baseball was informed this week that Frederic Horowitz had ruled in its favor.
Bonds had sought compensation after no teams would take him following his final season with San Francisco in 2007, when Bonds hit .276 with a .480 on-base average and 28 home runs in 340 at-bats.
The career home runs leader with 762, Bonds turned 43 during his last season. He later offered to play for the minimum major league salary but got no offers.
ALEX RODRIGUEZ’S former brother-in-law filed a $100 million suit in Miami state court Wednesday alleging, among other charges, breach of contract and fraud over multiple business ventures with the Yankees slugger.
The suit was filed by lawyers for Constantine Scurtis, the younger brother of Cynthia Rodriguez, who was divorced from the ballplayer in 2008.
CUBS: Playoff-contending Chicago acquired struggling reliever Fernando Rodney, an All-Star last season, from Seattle for cash.
The right-hander is 16 of 22 in save chances this season and has a 5.68 ERA.
RAYS: The team put outfielder Desmond Jennings on the 15-day disabled with a bruised left knee and recalled outfielder Joey Butler from Triple-A Durham.
Jennings bruised the knee sliding last weekend at Oakland.
• First baseman James Loney dropped his appeal of a one-game suspension and served it Thursday night. Loney was penalized for making contact with umpire Paul Nauert on Saturday at Oakland.
ORIOLES: Center fielder Adam Jones left the game against the Royals after running into the wall while tracking down a fly ball in the first inning.
There was no immediate word on the nature or severity of his injury.
RANGERS: Texas recalled right-hander Nick Martinez from Round Rock and optioned right-hander Spencer Patton to the Triple-A team.
