Police have identified the pilot whose body was found after his plane crashed early Thursday in a man-made pond in Houlton.

Houlton police identified the man as Bakary Doucoure, 29, of LeBlanc, France.

Doucoure was ferrying the plane from Europe to Florida and had been expected to land at the airport in Houlton about 1 a.m. Thursday for a customs inspection. The plane appeared to have clipped some trees and then flipped over into the pond.

Authorities began looking for the plane after they received reports of a possible crash. The plane’s landing gear was spotted sticking out of the water in the pond.

The pond was drained and the plane removed Thursday. Doucoure was the only occupant.
