Maureen Provencher has been named the new director of youth and young adult ministry for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland, effective Sept.14. She is a Biddeford native and holds a bachelor’s degree in religious studies from St. Michael’s College in Vermont. In 1992, she became director of youth ministry for St. Louis Parish in Fort Kent and worked as a pastoral associate for St. Mary Parish in Wells from 1994 to 1996. She has also served as the director of youth ministry for the Diocese of Burlington, Vermont, from 1996 to 2000 prior to becoming director of ministry for youth at St. Mary Parish in Chelmsford, Mass. In 2003, Provencher was appointed New England regional manager of blood donor recruitment for Hemacare Corporation/Coral Blood Services in Scarborough until joining RCL Benziger Catholic Publishing in 2006, where she is currently a senior regional sales representative. She is also a published author and has contributed to several books.

A summer fundraising challenge by a former St. Dominic Academy student has exceeded its goal. Donald Dion, a 1972 graduate of St, Dominic Academy, had pledged to match every dollar donated to the scholarship fund up to a maximum of $75,000. By the deadline, more than $150,000 has been raised and an upcoming reception will be held to honor all the donors and volunteers who contributed.
