A photograph from page 12 of the May 12, 1947, Portland Press Herald shows a celebration at home plate of the ballfield now known as Hadlock Field. According to the original caption, “Lou Tuminelli, whose fine play is making the Portland fans forget Tommy Siok, gets the glad hand from Captain Paul Gaulin and Johnny Dennis after slamming a four-bagger in the fifth frame to score Dennis also. The (Manchester) Giants halted the Pilots’ three-game win streak, 6-3.”

Sea Dogs third baseman Dustin Lawley is congratulated by teammates after scoring on a three-run double by Luis Martinez during a five-run third inning.

Near the same spot on Aug. 26, Dustin Lawley of the Portland Sea Dogs celebrates after scoring against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.

The Portland Room of the Portland Public Library is in the process of organizing and conserving the archival collection of original Portland Press Herald, Maine Sunday Telegram and Evening Express photographic negatives — a major collection that spans from 1937 to 2005.
