No, Sarah Jessica Parker will not be there, but she and her friends would no doubt appreciate a new wine-tasting event in Portland called “Maine Wine in the City.”

The October gathering hosted by the Maine Winery Guild will allow guests to sample their choice of 100 wines, all of them poured by the people who own the vineyards and wineries.

The event will be held Oct. 16 in the restored U.S. Custom House at 312 Fore St. There will be two tastings, one from 5 to 6:45 p.m. and another from 7:15 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $30 (or $40 at the door) and include tastes of 12 wines. Winter Hill Farm, Fuzzy Udder Creamery and Silvery Moon Creamery will be sampling and selling local cheeses.

Eighteen Maine wineries will participate in the event.

If you can’t wait until October, the guild is co-sponsoring its fourth annual Open Winery Day on Sept. 19. Visit a participating winery that day for tastings, tours, food and music. Some wineries will have special events, such as the medieval show at The Fat Friar’s Meadery in Newcastle and apple picking at Ricker’s Cidery in Turner.
