A Mount Vernon woman was recently named chairwoman of the Maine Green Independent Party.
Patricia Jackson was elected by the membership to fill the remaining year of a two-year term at the party’s annual convention in August, according to a news release from the party.
Jackson is a member of the Regional School Unit 38 School Board, chairwoman of the Mount Vernon Beach Committee and a volunteer at the Dr. Shaw Memorial Library. Her goal as leader of the Maine Green Independent Party is to increase the party’s visibility in local communities.
“We already have Greens throughout the state making major contributions to their communities,” Jackson said in the news release. “What we need now is a plan to help these active members organize so they can help their neighbors in additional ways.”
