MANCHESTER, N.H. — The Portland Sea Dogs fell behind early and couldn’t come back, falling 4-3 to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Thursday night to split a four-game set at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium, their final road series of the season.

The Sea Dogs’ trouble started in the first inning, when both Tzu-Wei Lin and Sam Travis worked walks only to be picked off at first base.

In the bottom of the first, the Fisher Cats (66-69) loaded the bases on an error, a walk and a single, then used a pair of infield force plays to score two runs.

New Hampshire added to the lead in the third. Dwight Smith Jr. open the inning with a double to center, and scored on Kevin Nolan’s lined single to left.

The Sea Dogs (51-87) answered with a run in the top of the fourth. Sam Travis led off with a double to left, advanced to third on a Tim Roberson groundout and scored on an infield grounder from Carlos Asuaje.

Shane Opitz regained the three-run lead for New Hampshire with an RBI single in the sixth, driving in K.C. Hobson.

Portland cut the defecit to one with two runs in the seventh. The Sea Dogs loaded the bases with a single and a pair of walks. Cole Sturgeon then walked to force home Kuery de la Cruz. Manuel Margot hit a sacrifice fly to score Oscar Tejeda, but Sturgeon was caught in a rundown for the second out, and Lin struck out to end the Portland threat.
