Oxford Plains Speedway announced that next year’s Oxford 250 will take place on the last Sunday in August, continuing a move from July that began this year.

The 43rd edition of the race will again pay $25,000 to the winner and will be a Pro All Stars Series-sanctioned, open Super Late Model event, with qualifying heat races and the feature race.

There will also be racing and other festivities on the preceeding Friday and Saturday.

NHL: Slava Voynov was taken into custody Wednesday by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, throwing the future of the young Los Angeles Kings defenseman into question.

Voynov had been jailed at the Seal Beach Police Detention Center since July 7 following his no contest plea to a misdemeanor domestic violence charge in Los Angeles Superior Court.

 The Arizona Coyotes signed first-round draft pick Nick Merkley to a three-year, entry-level contract.

The 18-year-old right wing played for Kelowna, British Columbia, in the Western Hockey League last season.

BROADCASTING: TV analyst Mark Rolfing has been diagnosed with salivary gland cancer will not be part of the Golf Channel or NBC broadcast team for the rest of the year.

He had surgery three weeks ago to remove a malignant growth from his left cheek area, and is starting a second phase of treatment in Houston for the rare form of cancer.

WELTKLASSE ZURICH: LaShawn Merritt edged a thrilling finish in the 400 meters, earning partial revenge for losing to Wayde van Niekerk at the world championships last month.

Merritt won in 44.18 seconds, 0.10 ahead of Grenada’s Kirani James – who claimed bronze in Beijing – and 0.17 ahead of Van Niekerk, the South African who left his kick too late.

FIFA: A FIFA-appointed panel driving reforms of the crisis-hit governing body has announced little progress after its first meeting in Bern, Switzerland.

Francois Carrard, who leads the process, set one target for this month: appointing a five-member advisory board to check his work.

Expected proposals – such as term limits and publishing payments for senior officials – must be voted in next year by FIFA’s member federations.
