Curt Schilling has been suspended by ESPN for the remainder of the 2015 baseball season, the network announced Thursday.

Schilling was initially removed from Little League World Series broadcasts after he tweeted a photo on Aug. 25 that compared Muslim extremists to Nazis. A day later, the network announced that Schilling would not be in the booth for the Sunday Night Baseball game between the Dodgers and Cubs.

Sports Illustrated reported that Schilling was expected to return to the booth this coming Sunday, but an email exchange between Schilling and a blogger apparently caused ESPN to extend the suspension.

“At all times during the course of their engagement with us, our commentators are directly linked to ESPN and are the face of our brand,” said ESPN’s statement. “We are a sports media company. Curt’s actions have not been consistent with his contractual obligations nor have they been professionally handled; they have obviously not reflected well on the company. As a result, he will not appear on ESPN through the remainer of the regular season and our Wild Card playoff game.”

THURSDAY GAMES

WHITE SOX 6, TWINS 4: J.B. Shuck’s two-run, pinch-hit triple in the seventh inning sent Chicago over Minnesota Thursday, the Twins’ last home game before beginning a key road trip.

NATIONALS 15, BRAVES 1: Ryan Zimmerman continued his torrid stretch with three hits and four RBI, Jordan Zimmermann pitched six solid innings and Washington opened a seven-game homestand with a rout of Atlanta.

BREWERS 5, PIRATES 3: Taylor Jungmann pitched six strong innings and host Milwaukee swept Pittsburgh in a three-game series.

Domingo Santana homered for Milwaukee.

NOTES

ROYALS: The AL Central leaders are confident no other players will come down with chickenpox after reliever Kelvin Herrera and left-fielder Alex Rios were diagnosed last weekend.

Manager Ned Yost said that Herrera and Rios could both come to the ballpark Friday for a workout. They would be sure to leave before the rest of the team arrived to start a three-game series against the White Sox.
