Food writer Nancy Harmon Jenkins will give a lecture and slide show at 10 a.m. Sept. 25 in Porter Hall at the Skidompha Library.

Harmon is an expert on olive oil and the Mediterranean diet. In her seventh book, “Virgin Territory: Exploring the World of Olive Oil,” Harmon shares more than 100 dishes that showcase olive oil and writes about her own olive grove at her home in Italy. Extra-virgin olive oil is a key component in Mediterranean cooking, and Jenkins will explain how it is made and how to use it in the kitchen and on the table.

Jenkins’ next book, “The Four Seasons of Pasta,” was co-written with her daughter Sara, who is a chef/restaurateur in New York. It will be published in October.

Jenkins divides her time between her home in Camden, where she was born, and her farm in Tuscany, where she produces her own small-batch olive oil.

Books will be available for purchase and a book signing following the talk, which is free and open to the public. For more information, call the Maine Coast Book Shop at 563-3207.
