I was so excited to see that Ethan Strimling has jumped into the race for mayor of Portland. I will be supporting him wholeheartedly. As one of the state senators for this great city, having someone who knows how to bring people together is an essential skill set for the job.

Besides having served in the Legislature alongside Ethan, I’ve watched the impressive growth and success at LearningWorks under his guidance.

That leadership has not gone unnoticed, even by our governor, who’s visited LearningWorks a number of times and has provided hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding to help them do their work.

Ethan has shown an ability to help the governor see some of the good work we do in Portland with at-risk youth and the immigrant community. Imagine if Ethan could do the same in regard to our economic development and education funding needs?

The role of an elected mayor in Portland is a work in progress, and I believe new eyes and a fresh start are exactly what we need.

State Sen. Anne Haskell

D-Portland
