NEW LONDON, N.H. — State police say a moose was hit by a car on Interstate 89 in New Hampshire, then was subsequently hit by four more vehicles.
Trooper Catherine Gault tells the Concord Monitor a woman driving near the New London-Sutton line struck the moose with her Chevy Cruze Wednesday night, sending the animal through the window.
Gault says it’s unknown if the second vehicle hit the moose and swerved, or swerved first, but that the Volkswagen Jetta ultimately rolled over onto its roof after hitting the animal.
The driver of the Jetta, who was unidentified, was hospitalized with minor injuries and released.
Gault says the carcass remained on the road and three other cars hit it before state police arrived.
The moose and the rolled-over car have since been removed.
