Sip and sample Maine in a glass on Oct. 16. That’s when the Maine Winery Guild will bring its member wineries to Portland to pour more than 100 products including wines, fortified wines, meads, ciders, beers and spirits. Farmers and vintners create these products to reflect Maine’s array of fruits, grains and honey, at the same time pioneering cold hardy wine grape production.

Maine Wine in the City, to be held in the newly restored U.S. Custom House Grand Customs Hall on Fore Street, has two scheduled tasting sessions: from 5 to 6:45 p.m. and from 7:15 to 9 p.m. Eighteen wineries and three local cheesemakers are participating.

Tickets cost $30 ahead of time at brownpapertickets.com (search for Maine Wine in the City) or $40 at the door. Admission includes a wine glass and 12 tastings.
