STANDISH — Colleen Sheehan and Sarah Comtois each scored unassisted goals in the first half as the St. Joseph’s women’s soccer team defeated Suffolk, 2-1, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference game Wednesday at Westerlea Way Field.

The Monks improved to 7-6 (4-2 GNAC), while the Rams fell to 3-10, 2-4.

Sheehan placed a kick from about 20 yards into the top right corner of the net in the 16th minute.

Comtois put in a rebound of her header that hit the crossbar about 10 minutes later.

Jennifer Martin scored about four minutes into the second half for the Rams, but St. Joseph’s goalie Brooke Troup stopped Martin’s next shot and Suffolk’s final four chances went wide or high of the goal.

BOWDOIN 1, BATES 0: Julia Patterson scored from Kiersten Turner in the 79th minute and the Polar Bears (5-2-1, 3-2 NESCAC) defeated the Bobcats (4-4-2, 1-2-2) at Lewiston.

Turner lofted a corner kick into the box to an unmarked Patterson, who finished it for her sixth goal.

Bridget McCarthy stopped three shots for the win, while Sarah McCarthy made six saves for Bates.

MEN’S SOCCER

SMCC 1, CMCC 0: Brandon Ford scored in the 77th minute and Drew Martin stopped six shots as the Seawolves (5-4-1, 4-1 YSCC) shut out the Mustangs (0-7, 0-6) at South Portland.

Zachary Lowe made 12 saves for the Mustangs.

COLBY 0, HUSSON 0: The Mules (6-3-1) and the visiting Eagles (2-5-2) played to a scoreless tie at Waterville.

FIELD HOCKEY

KEENE STATE 4, USM 1: Sami Smith scored three goals in the opening 13 minutes as the Owls (8-2, 6-0 Little East) downed the Huskies (5-8, 2-4) at Gorham.

Kayla Reanud assisted on Smith’s three goals and got the final goal in the 66th minute.

Allison Ward score her team-leading fifth goal in the 40th minute and Amanda Kasbohm made six saves for the Huskies.

BATES 2, ENDICOTT 1: Shannon Beaton and Caroline O’Reilly scored in the first half as the Bobcats (5-3) topped the Gulls (7-6) at Beverly, Massachusetts.

Beaton scored in the opening minute and O’Reilly put in a feed from Lauren Foster in the 20th minute.

COLBY 5, HUSSON 1: Megan Fortier had two goals and the the visiting Mules (6-4) scored four times in the first half against the Eagles (4-5) at Bangor.

Becca Moore, Eleanor Fitzgerald and McKayla Blanch also scored for the Mules.

Goalies Riley Whitmyer and Sarah Evans each played a half and made five saves each for Colby.

Lauren Russell scored and Anne Marie Provencal recorded six saves in the nets for Husson.
