A 34-year-old woman and a 3-year-old child both suffered serious injuries when they were struck by an SUV on Auburn Street, Portland police said late Saturday.

The incident occurred about 8 p.m. Saturday near 238 Auburn St., police said. The woman and the child were hit by the SUV, driven by a 55-year-old man, as they crossed the road. The driver was not injured.

The woman and child were taken to Maine Medical Center, police said, and information on their conditions was not immediately known. Their identities, as well as the driver’s, were not released Saturday, and police said they are still trying to determine if the victims were related.

Police said speed did not appear to be a factor in the incident. They said no charges were filed Saturday night, but they are still investigating.
