I’m writing today to endorse my friend Michael Brennan for mayor. I’ve gotten to know Mike during my tenure as speaker of the Maine House, and I have seen firsthand his commitment to the people of Portland.

Mike worked hard with the Portland delegation to ensure that we rejected Gov. LePage’s drastic proposed cuts to revenue sharing and General Assistance for asylum seekers.

No one knows more than I do about the personal cost of standing up to the governor, but Mike never backed down.

My support for Mike is about more than just his ability to stand up to the governor. Portland is flourishing under Mike’s leadership. Unemployment is below 4 percent, and the city passed a much-needed minimum-wage increase under his leadership.

Portland has had a great four years under Mike’s leadership, and voters should re-elect Mayor Brennan for another four years in November.
