The agenda for Monday’s Maine Human Rights Commission meeting lists 18 cases of alleged employee discrimination by Bath Iron Works.
Amy Sneirson, the commission’s executive director, said the discrimination complaints have been investigated by a commission staff member, who found reasonable grounds to believe BIW discriminated against three of the 18 employees. In the other 15 cases, the investigator did not find reasonable grounds, she said.
Still, the five-member commission will hear arguments on most of the discrimination complaints at its meeting Monday.
Commission staff has been told that one of the three complaints for which the investigator found reasonable grounds, filed by Charles Dorr of Sidney, already has been settled by the company and employee, Sneirson said.
The two other complaints for which the investigator found reasonable grounds, filed by Rodney Kates of Lewiston and Richard Roberts of Lisbon Falls, will be heard Monday, she said.
The commission is not bound to follow the investigator’s recommendations and may find BIW did or did not discriminate in any of the remaining cases, Sneirson said.
