Erin Ovalle is leaving her job as morning news anchor at Portland TV station WMTW, Channel 8, at the end of November to “pursue other professional goals,” including running a Portland dress boutique and salon that she co-owns.

Ovalle made the announcement in a news release Friday. While she’ll miss informing viewers, she said, she won’t miss getting up at 2:30 a.m. each day. She said that she felt “honored” that viewers have included her in their morning routines for the past seven years.

In September, Ovalle and Dr. Christine Blake, a family practitioner in Westbrook, opened a business called Style Me Portland at 29 Wharf St. in the Old Port. The business offers luxury clothing for special occasions, professional attire, and hair and makeup styling. Ovalle said in the release that working “more traditional business hours” will allow her to pursue other endeavors while focusing on Style Me Portland.

Ovalle grew up in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. She worked in broadcasting in New Hampshire, Illinois, Michigan and Florida before coming to Maine.

WMTW’s general manager, Dave Abel, would not comment Friday on Ovalle’s departure.
