Joe’s Boathouse, a dockside restaurant in South Portland that had a great view but received mixed reviews, has closed after 23 years.

Owners Joe Loring and Nate Chalaby did not announce their decision to close online. (The restaurant’s Facebook page hasn’t been updated since April.) The restaurant’s phone is no longer working, and Chalaby, who was also the executive chef, did not respond to requests for comment.

The landlord, Rob Soucy, owner of Port Harbor Marine, confirmed to the online site Eater Maine that Joe’s has closed and said he was open to leasing the space at Spring Point Marina to another restaurant. Soucy was out of town Friday and unreachable, according to his employees.

Joe’s Boathouse was last reviewed by the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram in April 2014 and received two stars, which is a “fair” rating. The reviewer called the food “challenging” and said one appetizer was “no better than airline food.”
