Route 113 in Fryeburg was closed for about an hour Wednesday after a pedestrian got hit by a car while trying to cross the street.

Fryeburg police were notified at 4:20 p.m. about the accident in front of Bea’s Cafe, near the intersection of Main Street and Route 113. When the officer arrived, he found a 23-year-old Fryeburg woman lying in the road.

The woman was taken to Memorial Hospital in Conway, New Hampshire, with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Police Chief Joshua Potvin said an 18-year-old driver from Bartlett, New Hampshire, was slowing down as she approached the intersection in a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am and hit the pedestrian, who did not see the car as it approached.

“The pedestrian was wearing dark clothing and is extremely fortunate to have only sustained minor injuries,” said Potvin in a press release. “She was approximately 20 feet from a crosswalk when the vehicle struck her. We wish her a speedy recovery.
