A Lincoln County man is charged with sexual exploitation of a child who investigators say was younger than 12 when the offenses occurred.

William Curran, 42, of Whitefield was arrested on the felony charge Monday evening at his home on Pittston Road, said Lt. Michael Murphy of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. Curran was held Wednesday at the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset on $100,000 cash bail. Murphy would not disclose the child’s age or gender.

In April, the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit got a warrant to search Curran’s home and investigators seized digital media.

Murphy said a backlog of cases for the computer crimes unit delayed the investigation, but on Monday, after reviewing evidence provided by the state, deputies from Lincoln County did a second search of Curran’s home.

Anyone with information relevant to the investigation should contact Detective Scott Hayden at the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at 882-7332.
