Foundation helps pantry

The People’s United Community Foundation has awarded a $2,500 grant to the food pantry of the Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program, which provides food assistance to more than 1,200 families each year.

The nonprofit organization also offers seven programs that ensure clients receive the skills needed to live self-sufficient and healthy lifestyles.

“We are so grateful for the support of the People’s United Community Foundation,” said Karen Parker, executive director of the Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program. “The winter season can be very difficult for many of the clients we serve.”

Key Club busy serving

Members of the Sanford High School Key Club have had a busy fall serving and conducting fundraisers that will benefit the community.

In early October, club members raised $324 with a car wash event to fund its scholarship program for graduating seniors.

Key Club members later worked alongside the Sanford McDonald’s employees in the restaurant for a few hours to raise money for the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Institute at Tufts Medical Center in Boston.

Club members also visited residents of the Newton Center, a nursing and rehabilitation facility, to help make holiday crafts.

Next month the students will return to the Newton Center to sing Christmas carols.
