Thomaston police are investigating a break-in at the Maine State Prison store.

The burglary was reported to police early Monday morning, said Police Chief Kevin Haj. Haj said he had no details about the burglary, including what was taken and how the building was entered, because his investigator had not returned from the scene.

The store sells wooden hand-crafted merchandise that has been manufactured in the prison industries program, including doll houses, bird feeders and furniture.

The showroom at 358 Main St. is open seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., though it is currently closed while investigators process the scene.

The prison industries program is designed to teach prisoners marketable skills and keep them occupied while serving their time.
