A fugitive from justice described by Sanford police as dangerous was apprehended Monday at a job site near Boston.

Detective Sgt. Matthew Jones said in a news release that Christopher William Gonyer, 40, of Sanford was arrested Monday afternoon by police in Cambridge, Massachusetts, while he was installing flooring at a job site there.

Sanford police obtained information that Gonyer was in Cambridge and tipped off local police to his whereabouts. He was known to have connections to Haverhill, Massachusetts.

Gonyer was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant for violating his probation. Gonyer, who had been installing flooring at the time, was also found to be in possession of heroin and will be facing drug possession charges in Massachusetts, Jones said.

Last week, Sanford police announced they were trying to locate Gonyer, who fled the Biddeford probation office on Nov. 4. At the time, he was on probation for three counts of aggravated assault and assault on a police officer related to a 2006 incident in which Gonyer stabbed the mother of his children as well the officer, Jones said.

Gonyer’s probation has since been revoked.

“All indications were that Mr. Gonyer had fled the state to avoid detection, and had no intention of turning himself in,” Jones said in the police statement.
