Boston Red Sox catcher Blake Swihart will be the featured guest for the Portland Sea Dogs’ annual Hot Stove Dinner and Silent Auction on Jan. 15 at the Sable Oaks Marriott in South Portland.

Swihart, 23, caught for the Sea Dogs in 2014 and was expected to play much of 2015 in Triple-A Pawtucket. But injuries to other catchers forced an early promotion to the majors. In 84 games with the Red Sox, he batted .274 with a .712 OPS.

Swihart returned to Portland last summer to throw out the first pitch for the Eastern League All-Star Game. Swihart then stayed around, walking throughout the stadium and greeting fans.

The Hot Stove event, which benefits the Maine Children’s Cancer Program, begins at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 and seating is limited to 300. Tickets can be purchased at the Hadlock Field ticket office, by phone at 207-879-9500, or online at www.seadogs.com.
