SALISBURY, Mass. — A rescue group has removed 67 cats from an 84-year-old Salisbury man’s mobile home following a tip that led them to the overcrowded space.

Executive Director Liz Pease of the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society says 41 adult cats and 26 kittens were rescued on Nov. 25.

Pease says the cats’ owner had been feeding them macaroni and cheese. She says the cats are “remarkably healthy” given the dangerous conditions they lived in.

Police Chief Tom Fowler says the owner has since returned to his home and no charges will be filed.

The rescue group’s veterinarian has examined the cats and is in the process of administering vaccinations.
