PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Seth Griffith scored an unassisted goal in overtime as the Providence Bruins beat the Portland Pirates 3-2 in an American Hockey League game Friday.

Griffith scored his fifth goal of the season 1:35 into overtime when he forced a turnover and raced toward the net, going airborne but still managing to put a shot on net. The puck slipped past Pirates goalie Mike McKenna’s right pad to end the game.

Portland took a 1-0 lead at 13:53 of the second period when Sena Acolatse scored, assisted by Rob Schremp and Rocco Grimaldi.

Providence tied it, however, with a power-play goal by Brandon DeFazio in the final minute of the period.

Max Talbot then put the Bruins ahead with 5:18 left in regulation. Alexander Kohkhlachev and Chris Breen assisted on the goal.

Portland forced overtime with just 2:11 left in regulation when Schremp scored his eighth goal of the season, assisted by Shane Harper and Michael Matheson.

McKenna finished with 28 saves. Malcolm Subban made 31 saves for Providence.
