Chinese investors are committing $40 million to convert an old shoe shop in Auburn into a center for medical tourism in Maine, the latest example of growing ties between that country and ourselves. To court even more investment from China, the state is trying to launch a program to expedite citizen privileges for foreign investors who pledge $500,000 or more in a Maine project.

Whether investment opportunities, lobsters or a public education, Maine is drawing interest from wealthy Chinese. What opportunities does that present for Maine?  And how — or will — China’s recent economic turbulence affect those opportunities?

To examine those questions and more, Janine Bisaillon-Cary, head of the Maine International Trade Center; Suzanne Fox, CEO of Fox Intercultural Consulting; and Roland Miller,  the city of Auburn’s liaison for the medical tourism project, will join Press Herald Business Editor Carol Coultas for a lively conversation.
