RANGELEY — Saddleback’s owners have agreed to sale terms with a buyer for the ski resort and the parties are completing paperwork to finalize the sale, according to the company.

In a post on its Facebook page Friday, Saddleback Maine said its owners, the Berry family of Farmington, and the prospective buyer, whom it did not name, were in agreement on terms and “now it’s just down to finishing the complicated paperwork … so we can get down to important things like working on the hill!” It said there would be another update on the sale this week. The company has primarily used Facebook to communicate updates about the sale.

Last month, Saddleback said the Berry family and the prospective new owner are confident they would have an agreement in place and be ready to open by late January. Dec. 19 is the mountain’s traditional opening day.

Saddleback’s future has been in question since last July, when the company announced it would have to cease winter operations if it could not get $3 million in financing to replace an aging main chairlift.

In October, the company said it had exhausted all financing options, but was in “serious” talks with a prospective buyer.

The 4,120-foot mountain is one of the largest employers in Franklin County.
