The parents of a newborn baby boy whose body was found in their Fairfield garage this week were allowed to return to their home Wednesday night after detectives completed a four-day search of the home and garage.

A Maine State Police investigation continues into the death of a full-term infant found at a mobile home on Norridgewock Road, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety.

No one answered the door Thursday night at the home of Kayla Stewart and Nicholas Blood.

The medical examiner’s office continues to test the baby’s remains after completing an examination.

“Interviews continue, so does the testing by the medical examiner, and the investigation continues,” McCausland said Thursday afternoon in an email.

Stewart, 20, and Blood, 25, live at the mobile home with their 3-year-old daughter, police said. McCausland said Wednesday that the child was staying with relatives while the home was searched. He said the couple was cooperating in the investigation and no charges have been filed.

Detectives were called to the home Sunday night and on Monday discovered the body. McCausland would not say why detectives originally were called to the home.

According to neighbors, the family moved into the light blue mobile home five or six months ago. The home is on busy Norridgewock Road, which also is Route 139.
