FALMOUTH — A veteran conservationist is taking over as the chief of Maine Audubon.

The new executive director of the organization is Ole Amundsen, who has spent 25 years working in conservation, environmental education and finance. He was most recently the program manager for The Conservation Fund.

Maine Audubon says Amundsen has obtained more than $20 million in loans for a range of conservation groups around the country. One of those is a $3 million loan to build Boston Public Market.

Maine Audubon Board of Trustees President Jerry King says Amundsen will put a focus on conservation as the leader of the organization.

Amundsen succeeds Charles Gauvin as leader of Maine Audubon.
