I thank Dr. James Maier for his excellent essay on not-so-smart smartphones and driving. I immediately got on my computer and sent a copy of the essay to all the members of my family around the country.

I think the most shocking information was that a person operating a car at 70 mph who uses a cellphone for five seconds is distracted while driving the length of a football field.

Walking and using your device can be just as dangerous; over the holidays, a man in San Diego walked off a cliff while distracted by an electronic device.

This essay is a condensed mini-course and should be read by everyone who uses electronic devices. Spread the word and save lives!
