LOWELL, Mass. — Sigi Koizar scored a career-high 32 points Thursday night to lead the University of Maine to a 73-46 victory against UMass-Lowell in an America East women’s basketball game.
The Black Bears (20-7, 11-1) will take an eight-game winning streak into a showdown with Albany, the league leader, at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
Maine scored the first 11 points but UMass-Lowell (4-20, 1-11) hung tight in the first quarter, closing with an 11-4 run.
Maine then outscored the River Hawks 12-4 in the last 6:33 of the half to take command for good.
Koizar was 13 of 20 from the floor and had four 3-pointers, bringing her conference-leading total to 66. Sophie Weckstrom added 11 points and Mikaela Gustafsson had 10.
Nicole Hayner led UMass-Lowell with 15 points, all 3-pointers. Kayla Gibbs added 14 points.
(2) SOUTH CAROLINA 86, (16) FLORIDA 71: Tiffany Mitchell scored 22 points, Alaina Coates had her 13th double-double this season with 14 points and 11 rebounds, and South Carolina (23-1, 11-0 Southeastern) bounced back from its loss to top-ranked UConn by beating Florida (19-5, 7-4) at Columbia, South Carolina.
(5) MARYLAND 73, PURDUE 59: Shatori Walker-Kimbrough scored 23 points, Brionna Jones had 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Maryland (22-3, 11-2 Big Ten) beat Purdue (16-8, 7-6) at College Park, Maryland, for a season sweep.
(10) FLORIDA STATE 69, DUKE 53: Shakayla Thomas scored 14 points and Florida State (20-4, 10-1 Atlantic Coast) beat Duke (17-9, 6-6) at Durham, North Carolina, for its 10th straight win.
(15) TEXAS A&M 64, (11) MISSISSIPPI STATE 58: Courtney Williams had 22 points and Courtney Walker had 21 as Texas A&M (17-7, 7-4 Southeastern) defeated Mississippi State (21-6, 8-4) at College Station, Texas.
(12) LOUISVILLE 84, PITTSBURGH 61: Myisha Hines-Allen had a career-high 29 points, Cortnee Walton added a double-double and visiting Louisville (19-6, 11-1 Atlantic Coast) rolled past Pittsburgh (10-14. 2-9).
MEN’S BASKETBALL
UMASS-LOWELL 108, MAINE 95: Matt Harris scored a career-high 33 points, including eight in a 21-point overtime outburst for UMass-Lowell (10-15 6-6 America East) against the Black Bears (8-17, 4-8) at Bangor.
Harris hit a 3-pointer with 20 seconds left in regulation and the game went to overtime after Maine missed two shots. Harris hit another 3-pointer to begin overtime, and the River Hawks scored the first 14 points.
Harris was 10 of 15 from the floor, including a career-high seven 3-pointers. Logan Primerano hit all three of his 3-pointers in scoring 27 points, Jahad Thomas had 20 points and 10 rebounds, and Isaac White added 12 points. The River Hawks shot 50 percent overall, and 57 percent on a season-high 16 3-pointers.
Aaron Calixte scored 19 points, Issac Vann and Till Gloger both had 18, Gloger on 7-of-9 shooting, with Shaun Lawton adding 13 for Maine.
