A Raymond woman was charged with operating under the influence early Saturday after she drove her vehicle off the road and struck a telephone pole.

Amanda Thomes, 36, was driving her 2016 Toyota Highlander north on Meadow Road (Route 121) in Raymond just after midnight when she lost control, according to a news release from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

Thomes struck a telephone pole, shearing it in half and causing wires to suspend over the roadway. Neither she nor an unidentified adult male passenger was injured.

Another vehicle traveling north behind Thomes struck the suspended telephone pole. The driver of the 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser, Darrin Reynolds, 39, of Harrison, and an unidentified passenger were treated at the scene for minor injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.

The road was covered with snow when the crash occurred.

Thomes, whose vehicle was totaled, was arrested on a charge of operating under the influence. She is scheduled to appear in court on April 19.

Reynolds’ vehicle sustained a broken windshield.
