Darling’s Waterfront Pavilion in Bangor has been nominated for Venue of the Year at the upcoming Academy of Country Music Awards. The nomination was announced Tuesday via the academy’s Twitter account.

The ACM awards are given to performers as well as to other individuals and businesses in the country music industry. Besides a venue of the year award, the ACM also has categories for nightclubs, casinos, festivals, talent buyers and promoters. Darling’s was nominated in the large-capacity venue category.

Darling’s, a 16,000-capacity outdoor venue in downtown Bangor that will be entering its seventh season, was also nominated in 2014 but did not win. The venue hosts four or five country acts a year, among acts from other genres. This year the venue has nine country shows scheduled so far, including Dixie Chicks on June 16, Florida Georgia Line on June 23 and Miranda Lambert on Aug. 21.

One of the other venues facing off against Darling’s Waterfront Pavilion is the Xfinity Center in Mansfield, Massachusetts. Venues in Ohio, Washington and Indiana also are nominated.

Alex Gray of Waterfront Concerts, which runs the Bangor venue, said he will be attending the ACM Awards on April 3. Some of the awards will be televised on CBS, but not the venue category, Gray said.

“In our minds we have already won. The other venues in this category are all amazing, and we are lucky to be in their company,” Gray said Tuesday. “It’s very humbling in a short six seasons to have two nominations.”
